I remember Ira and his wife visiting my family, Stanley & Shirley Tomlin & Andy & Iva Lea in Kansas City MO. They played and sang late into the nite and then left the next day, only to be killed in the car wreck that day. My father, Andy Lea was raised in Henager AL, and I supposed that is how they all knew each other. Me and my husband were in Nashville a few weeks back and to my surprise, Charlie Louvin appeared on stage @ the Ryman. I was so excited that I was seeing him perform and called my parents to let them know. I wanted to talk with him, but by the time the show ended, he had left. What a great honor it was to see and hear him.

Charlie, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you battle cancer. I have been a long time fan of you and your brother. I had the pleasure of meeting you when you had the Museum at Bellbuckle several years ago. You were most gracious and I truly enjoyed our conversation. May God bless you!

We were fortunate to be able to work with Charlie in Nashville and on the road during the 50 and 60′s era. For a couple years we wrote for his publishing house and then went to write for Fred Carter Jr when Charlie sold his to Acuff -Rose. We even rented an office in the same building as his office and Foster and Rice office on 16th Ave S.
What an experience!! Charlie was a great mentor in the music business, and we still enjoy performing the Gospel songs he and Ira wrote….
He was a good friend who always told it “like it was”. Both in song and in words.
Pray you are enjoying singing with Ira again, Charlie, and enjoying the presence of the Lord you loved so much.
old friends, Rick and Bebe

Wow. What an experience! Charlie was a great mentor and a good friend, and always told it “like it was”. We wrote for his publishing house until he sold it to Acuff Rose, and then wrote for Fred Carter Jr. in Goodletsville, and recorded with him, also
We pray you are enjoying the presence of the Lord tonight, Charlie, and even singing with brother Ira. See you again one of these days , cause like your song said: “Born Again”….we’ll look for you at the gate…love ya much and will miss you.

I’m deeply saddened by the news of Mr. Louvin’s passing. The heartfelt gospel tunes of the Louvin Brothers will no doubt remain deeply moving for as long as there are people to hear them. Please pass on my condolences to the family, friends and fans of Charlie Louvin.
God bless,
Respecfully,

I was going t audition in 2005 for guitar for Charlie.I met him in Manchester at Shoneys.Him and his Wife Betty greeted me We went in and ate and talked for about 1 1/2 hours betty was going shopping he told Betty me and Billy Boy are going to the house.Charlie directed me to his beautiful home (I drove). we ended up spending a whole day together this man was the real deal. He shared stories with me of the Louvin Brothers We both had horrible colds and tried in vain to sing some LB songs. I was with him until late evening he was still going strong and He was 78 then:).I was really tired and went back to my motel room, about 9 am next morning I get a call from Charlie,
“Billy Boy want to have some breakfast with me?? Of course:). We ate breakfast and a few people recognized him and shook hands. Charlie gave me about 15 Louvin CD’s I told him I had no money extra with me, “I gave them to you”!!!! :). My wife arranged Flu Shots for Charlie and Betty in turn we were his guest BACKSTAGE at the Opry a thrill in itself I will never forget this kind and wonderful man. He would give his opinion in a new york minute but he was kind and cared for others I will sadly miss this Legend Thank You Charlie and Betty, Bill Howard
