What an interesting book and a unique approach. As a history teacher, I kept wanting him to give me a few more dates, more context, etc. But the more I think about it, it is a much more accurate "history" by leaving it as Charlie Louvin said it. My family was also from Sand Mountain (Macedonia, Rainesville, Fort Payne) my grandfather was a travelling preacher who started churches on Sand and Lookout Mountain before and during Charlie's childhood. Henagar was one of the towns he visited. And they lived in Fort Payne when Charlie and his father were driving a wagon in to sell produce. I like to think they must have sold some food to my family and listened to my grandfather preach at some point. Anyway, it was a great read, a must for anyone who likes the Louvin Brothers, but also a great book simply for the history and the way Charlie tells the story. I'll use parts of it in classes.

Charlie: I recieved your book yesterday. For some reason I started in the middle and read the last 1/2 first. I didn't expect you to talk like I do, profane and blunt. I liked that. Your book hit home on a lot of subjects and has inspired me to try to fix somethings in my life. You are missed dude. R.I.P. Charley. thank you for a life time of wonderful music. One of your many fans David

I just read Satan Is Real in one sitting. A fascinating read! I have been researching all the Louvin tunes since setting the book down; thanks to this narrative, I have newfound interest in traditional country music. I wish the very best for the Louvin family.

Wow. What else can you say about such an amazing songster. I just today heard Charlie's music, that I am aware of, for the first time on a 20th anniversary edition of David Dye's World Cafe. Before I heard any of the interview, while listening to a song, said to myself, "now that, is country music!"
At the end of the segment, I sadly heard David Dye say that Charlie had passed....that brought me down from the high of his music, as I had gotten excited at the thought of seeing him perform.
Ya got a new fan Charlie, thanks!

I just want you to know how much the Louvin Brothers music has influenced my life. Not only myself, but everyone in the world that has ever listened to them will be forever touched and enlightened. The gift to us all was their music and that made the a better place. My children listen to their music and I know my grandchildren will too. The music they made will forever. Thanks

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to sing backup with Chalie a few times in the late 60's! Sleep well, my friend.
